15. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:15-17

Lust is a strong hunger for anything – sex, power, food, money, and so on. A person lusts after things he desires or cares strongly about. Lust is borne out of covetousness which is a clear trait of the world. If, after taking the grace of righteousness from the finished works of Christ, a man can eschew covetousness or lust in all its ramification, the same is never likely to go to hell. There are those who assume they belong to God but are full of lust which makes them to keep acquiring and keep thinking if anyone had so much wealth but is no longer drawn to wealth, the same is thereby in the miry clay. The position of Christ is clear: we are to store up treasures in heaven. To the lustful, having many private jets and numerous luxurious cars and earthly mansions is success. No, they are the results of lusts, majorly. Isn’t it enough to say what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? Those who yield to fulfilling lust endanger their souls, for the soul that sins (either by covetousness or otherwise) it shall die.

When Jesus was in the wilderness and was tempted of the devil, all the devil did was to try to draw out lust in Him so as to entrap His soul. Incidentally, Christ cannot sin because He has no fruit of sin in Him. Hence, there is no sin in Him to sin. He is the only one who was never lured by lust unto sin. Like Him, as we are also now born of the Spirit, we carry the DNA of the same Spirit that brought Him to being. Hence, there ought no longer to be lust in us for the enemy to lure. Those who are full of thoughts about acquisitions and are raising a team of lustful souls in their own kind, are agents of the devil putting souls in the verge of sin and therefore death. It is because of their teachings and luring that there are many Christians who are fornicators and adulterers because they still bear the lust of the flesh; they are thieves to convert funds put in their care to themselves surreptitiously because the lust of the eyes operates in them; and they are often boastful using the word “I” so much to depict achievements rather than allow God be glorified in their deeds knowing that without Christ we can do nothing. Their boasts are borne out of the pride of life. All of these belong to the world and not the Kingdom. Eschew them.

By the power of the Holy Spirit by whom we had been convicted of sin and turned to righteousness, we receive the power to overcome lust in all ways in the name of Jesus Christ. The same power by which Christ was able to overcome the devil we receive today in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Every trap that we may have been ensnared with through lust in the past, we come out of such snare by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ in Jesus’ name. And everything we had lost to darkness in sin through lust, we retrieve and fully recover in Jesus’ name. Like the Lord created a separation between land and water so that the water is bounded from overflowing the land, we command a clear separation between every one of us and all agents of darkness seeking by their sweet words to lure us to lust, in Jesus’ name.

SOLUTION: Run for dear life. Lust is a destroyer. As much as you eschew lust, run from all evil enticers telling you to make wealth at all cost as if when you do, it is the Lord drawing you out of miry clay unto the rock. Run!
