Manifest Children Of God

Focus: 1 John 3:10 - KJV

10. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

1 John 3:7-10

Doing righteousness is about doing good and right things as opposed to doing evil or wrong things. In simple terms, it is doing to others as we would want to be done to. For as much as we would not approve heartily, that anyone should hurt us or do us evil, then we ought not to do it to any other. Those who are able to fulfil this tenet are reckoned to be above sin and therefore are like God because they are sons of God. On the flip side, those who are prone to unrighteous or evil deeds do not have the gene of the righteous God in them; they belong to the evil one. Let us view it in this manner: God is love and therefore, everything He does is loving continually. On the other side, the devil is never loving and so, all he does are targeted at causing sorrow, tears and blood, because he simply seeks to steal, kill and/or destroy. Hence, those who do evil are like him, for evil deeds end up causing sorrow, tears and blood.

Jonathan was heir apparent to the throne of Israel, being the son of king Saul. He however loved David that, even though he believed David was a potential substitute for himself to the throne, he took care of David and did to him as he (Jonathan) would have wanted to be done to. This is not common with men. Jonathan was a type of righteousness which God approves. His father was not so righteous, unfortunately. Rather than love the one who saved him from disgrace in battle with the Philistines, he sought to kill him and did hire many to carry out the killing. Even after the person he sought to kill showed proof that he could have killed the king, he did not desist from the evil pursuit. That precisely is the way of the devil. No matter how much you escape and appear to defeat him in battle through prayers, he never succumbs; he is always out to re-strategize. It is by their fruit that they are identified. The sons of God do not engage in such pursuit.

Dear friend, we also are called sons of God because we do not unrighteous things but love our neighbors like ourselves. But, wait a minute: the test is in loving like ourselves – not doing to them things we won’t want others to do to us. If for instance, we become highly placed and find that one of our old contemporaries is not well to do, righteous deed will be to assist the same to rise and not subsume him under putting our feet over his head just so that he is able to put food on the table. Doing that is not love, even though it may appear in the face of some as good. It boils down to one fact: when God will come in judgment, He will not use the standards of men. It is either we operate in righteousness and love, being of God, or we are not. No evil work will be approved of Him. Evil works are of the devil. Whoever we become is by the providence of God: if He likes, He can reverse the story. What happens if He does: would we have loved to have our colleague’s feet over our heads because of need? Think about it.

SOLUTION: Do righteous things and let it be glaring before God and man. Doing evil is only reminiscent of being a product of the devil. Flee therefore, from every appearance of evil and hold on to things that are good and just, like your father, God Himself.

Please pray: Father, we love you and we do make bold to say we do; in any way that we have been failing in love towards you by not loving our neighbors adequately, kindly forgive us today, in the name of Jesus. Help us to be like you the more so that we may only do unto others that which we will approve be done to us also, in Jesus’ name.

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
