Measure Of Love

Focus: John 15:12 - KJV

12. This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

John 13:33-34

The standard of God is that to whom much is given, much is desired. The same God gave us Jesus in love, who in turn showed us love and taught us how to love saying we should love one another just in the same way He has loved us. The question then will be: how has He loved us? First, when we did not deserve it because we were horribly in sin, He loved us and drew us unto Himself; next, despite His not being our contemporary, when we offend Him, He refuses to cast us away; again, despite our refusal to accept Him for who He is, He surrendered His life to ransom us from imminent death; upon all these that He has done, rather than obey Him, we refuse to and yet He keeps loving and seeking us to return home. If we look at this few alone, we will appreciate that the measure of love God expects from us inter se, is huge and many are failing in it.

It follows that, it is disobedient to stop loving a brother because he has fallen into sin since Christ loved us while we were yet sinners. Class distinctions in the body of Christ that make some segregate themselves from other members of the body because of status, not taking to mind the story of Lazarus and the rich man, is unfortunate and does not exemplify the love Christ has commanded. Furthermore, the fact that people speak against you, or are against your ways which they perceive in some wrong manner, is no basis not to love them, for Christ loves us in the same circumstance. Even if you are in a position of higher authority as conferred by time and chance in the world, it is not a basis to refuse to love a subordinate who refuses to obey your commands, or have we not also done same several times over to Christ? If we take time to review these positions, we will know how so much we are failing in the duty of loving one another.

Beloved, if we want Christ to keep showering us with love, then we need to heed His injunction to love one another just as He has loved us, for the measure we mete out to others, is the same that will be measured back to us. Perhaps the reason that prayer has not been answered and appear to be lingering is our refusal to grant the request of that simple brother which we have capacity to do, in love. If we want mercy, we are to show mercy, in love, and if we want to be promoted, we are to promote others in love. If we will sow love, then we will reap it in greater proportion. Love one another.

SOLUTION: The core of the Lord’s will is love. If we fail to love one another, we can never fulfill the will of God. Pursue love and let God be the judge of them that repay evil for the love you offer.

Please pray: Lord, I seek a heart transplant today: please take from me the heart of stone that refuses to love and give me in return your kind of heart that I may love others like you love me, in Jesus’ name. Please do not let me ever fail you in the place of love, in Jesus’ name.

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
