Focus: Hebrews 6:4-6 - KJV
4. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5. And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6. If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Hebrews 6:4-8
When the Lord speaks about falling away, some assume it is about leaving a denomination to seek the Lord better elsewhere; not so. It is more about leaving the faith we have experienced in God, if at all, to return to serving another, who is not God. The growth of the Church came by the Holy Spirit scattering the disciples just like He scattered men at Babel. Later, the protestants came out of the Roman Catholic Church and so on because people perceive another insight into godliness through the Word of God that the then leadership of the denomination was adamant about. Subsequently, some of the things which those who left spoke to, have been embraced by the main denomination. That cannot be a falling away. The falling away is to ascribe a lie to the existence of the Christ and the power of His sacrifice; to teach people to turn their backs unto salvation in Christ and thereby reintroduce darkness into their affairs. Having tasted of the goodness of God in the side of the light, when people do such, they are guilty of nailing Christ anew. It is difficult to ransom such again because their souls have been sealed to the devil. The end of the same is destruction. But why must we be destroyed?
Beloved, an African adage says except a woman has a taste of two husbands, she is not able to tell which is better. We all have tasted the devil as a husband while we were in the world. Having been invited to Christ and finding Him good, it is foolhardy to jettison the good to return to the evil. After having washed us the first time to take us over as husband, if we return to the filthy one, He is not likely to take us back. This is why He is warning today that we hold fast our position in Him and don’t allow the enemy to entice us back into his dungeon. Those who refuse to stay on are accursed and damned to hell. Please don’t fall away.
SOLUTION: Follow Paul’s leading and determine that nothing shall separate you from the love of Christ. Let no persecution, tribulation or whatever it may be push you away from the love of Christ. Stick with Him to the end.
Father, there is none like you and we want to stick with you to the end. But here before us we are confronted with so much heat, pain and anguish coming from the camp of the enemy. Please help us to stay strong that we may finish strong and well in you in the name of Jesus Christ. Let nothing separate us from your love in Jesus’ name. Whatever must be done to prevent our falling away, please do by your mercy that we may forever remain in you in Jesus’ name.
