Pray For The Sick

Focus: James 5:16 - KJV

16. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

1 Kings 13:1-6

Prayers work wonders to heal them that are sick. Nevertheless, the kind of prayers that do so are the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous man. A man is not righteous that carry grudges against his fellow being. Hence, we are enjoined first, to confess our faults one to another. Once offences are cleared and there is no guile, then we can pray for one another that we might be healed. Many do carry ailments in their bodies without knowing because the symptoms are yet to manifest. Hence, it is assumed they are not sick and therefore do not need prayers. There is the need to pray against sicknesses that have gained root but are yet to show. Prayers will deal with such from its root.

When Peter’s heart was no longer beguiled, his shadow healed. For Paul, pieces of clothes taken from him did too. There was a young prophet in the days of Jeroboam. He went to deliver the message of the Lord and the king was offended by it. In his countenance, he stretched forth his hand to arrest the prophet and his hand withered, instantly. He confessed his fault to the prophet and asked him to please pray for his healing and restoration. Even though he meant to do the prophet evil, the same did not beguile him. Rather, he intreated the Lord on behalf of the king and his hand was restored. His prayer, being a righteous man without guile, availed much for him to see and glorify the Lord.

God wants us to know that prayer can be effective if we approach it correctly. It is sad that despite there being believers in the land, many are lost to sicknesses even amongst the brethren. The Lord is saying the reasons we do not achieve healing of the sick brethren is because of guile and grudges in our hearts. God is saying if we confess our faults one to another and settle our differences or rifts, our prayers will be considered to be of the righteous. If indeed, all God seeks is that we love one another, then there is no room for grudges over faults. Let us clear our hearts of guile and be effective in the place of prayer.

Father, I love you and appreciate you for being a prayer answering God. Thank you for the answers to our past prayers for healing. Do forgive us and cleanse us of all hurts that may have formed guile in our hearts, in Jesus’ name. Let every soul known or unknown to me, carrying any form of ailment in his/her body receive healing today, in the name of Jesus. Let the prayers that I make to you for myself or anyone at all, begin to avail much from today, in the name of Jesus.
