14. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Hebrews 12:14-24
One of the greatest penchants of making it to heaven is holiness and there can be no holiness where peace is amiss, or where we live in rancor or malice with our neighbor. Peace is said to be a concept of societal friendship and harmony in the absence of hostility and violence. In essence, for anyone to be holy, the same need to live in harmony or friendship with others in society to which he belongs. Point is, the absence of peace may cause one and many others to be defiled. For instance, rancorous relationship between two supposed members of the body of Christ may prevent others from embracing their Christ. No wonder Christ says if your brother has an issue against you, there is need to settle with him before delivering your offering. It is not a matter of right or wrong but that of ensuring there is peace between you and your brother. Point is, there is an accuser who presents reasons why a supposed saint should not be admitted into the company of saints. To overcome the accuser, we need to be able to rely on the sacrifice of the blood of Christ that speaks better things (mercy) than the blood of Abel (vengeance). The way to the blood is however in obedience. Such obedience is found in pursuing peace. When we pursue peace, no one is reporting us before God. Our lives are viewed in purity as just men. We become saints properly so called and the blood of Jesus avails for us before the throne of mercy.
That animosity and complete defiance to the instruction of God do not augur well for the Christian journey. We are to treat others as we would like to be treated. Stop treating anyone like a sore thumb because of any occurrence or mistake or whatever. The one you pursue peace with today may end up being the helper of your destiny tomorrow. If peace is not engendered and he also becomes strong hearted and he withdraws his hand from rendering a necessary assistance, what will be the gain in all the animosity? We are the primary beneficiaries of the instruction of God. By and large, what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul for a failure to pursue peace? Please let go.
SOLUTION: Let peace reign between you and everyone you know or you can think of that you ever had issues with. Take deliberate steps to make peace, no matter what. If after you make genuine overtures severally and they be adamant, continue to pray that the Lord touches the heart of the person concerned that there may be peace between you.
God of peace, we call upon your name. As many as are struggling with pursuing or maintaining peace with their neighbors, please by your Spirit, help them to attain peaceful resolutions in Jesus’ name. Make us all partakers of your heavenly glory in Jesus’ name. Let your name be glorified in all things. Above all, let nothing prevent us from being with you in the end in Jesus’ name.
