Put the Flesh Away

Focus: 1 Peter 4:3 - KJV

3. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

1 Peter 4:1-5

There is none that is in Christ today who does not have a past. In the past we had been like the heathen walking in lusts, drunkenness, terrible maneuverings and at times idolatries. These things are not completely strange to us not to know when others are doing it. However, from the day we declare for Jesus who died that we may live, we are expected to die to all such vices and take on a new life exemplified by the life of holiness that Christ lived. It is therefore an aberration of sort for someone said to be dead to something to still be found living in same. It simply suggests that the same either only fainted or never died at all. The grace that the Lord has given us is for us to be accounted as holy and never sinned since He gave His life for us and not that we are free to live the same life we are being rescued from all over again. Why then did Christ die if there was nothing wrong with the way we led our lives in the past? Why do we need to accept Him as Lord and Savior if there be nothing wrong with our old ways? We are to lead a new life to convince those who are left in the old way to have a rethink and embrace that which has made us better people. Returning to the old way is to damn the Lord.

Beloved, you are made a better person by the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. So, please live your life as a better person going forward. Let the world see the difference between your old self and the new you. Walking in the old ways is returning to the vomit which is the way of the dog. God has ransomed you from the ways of the dogs. Let Him find His sacrifice worthwhile in your life by the manner of life you live different from the old ways.

SOLUTION: Put away the old man with his affections and put on the Holy Spirit. Yield only to things Christ approves and stop pursuing youthful lust. God is counting on you to show forth good works and let your light so shine.

The power to shine brightly in good works receive from now in the name of Jesus Christ. The strength to abstain from the old ways and never be enticed to it again the Lord gives you now in Jesus’ name. The Spirit that raised Christ from the dead will in-dwell you from now and quicken your mortal body to live a good life henceforth in Jesus’ name.
