4. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
2 Timothy 3:14-17
It is the final day in the tenth month of the current year. May the Lord grant us the grace to finish well and strong the rest of the year, in Jesus’ name. The scripture is a record of what the Lord inspired some authors to write, albeit with the authors’ biases in some cases, put together to guide the upcoming God seeker of the truth of the person of God so as to avoid a repetition of the mistakes of some actors, emulate the good deeds of some others, and heed the express untainted word of God. To sieve the truth from the bias and to understand what really is of God and God’s will, the “man of God” needs to unlearn and relearn of Christ so as to, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, become son of God. The knowledge of God is unsearchable particularly for a single generation. Hence, for the knowledge of the Lord to keep increasing, there is need to combine all findings and make it available to all generation.
Elijah was a man of God: he discovered how to bring forth fire from heaven. Good virtue. But the fire was to consume sacrifice to prove to unbelievers that God is real. It was not to burn humans. Moses got the virtue to part the Sea for the Israelites to have passage to the other side; not to close it on the Egyptian army. The power given to the followers of Christ which many of them including Peter put to use was to cast out devils and disperse darkness wherever it is found; not to destroy part of the flock of Christ like Ananias and Sapphira. All of these people were accorded the mercy of God since they operated in ignorance. But for the latter generations not to fall into such booby traps of the devil like they fell into, the Lord inspired the writing of these treatise in a bundle called the Bible, to aid the new believer in moving from the realm of being a man of God into becoming son of God.
There are so many things that the believer has been made to believe based on the extent of the understanding of his tutor. Meanwhile, even the tutor does not yet know well enough. The Lord is inviting us to become pupils in the class of the Holy Spirit that He may teach us all things and bring to our remembrance the things Christ asserted. It is then we can have a true picture of the person of God. If we go reading the Bible focusing on any character, we may be trapped in the ills of any such character. The Bible is an intertwined compendium not to be viewed with the eye of any one character or author, but to be viewed as one unit teaching us about God through Christ by the help of the Holy Spirit.
