The Abiding Comforter:

Focus: John 14:16 - KJV

16. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

John 16:5-11

Our God is not only considerate, but also very compassionate that He will never leave us comfortless at any time. He is a present help in times of trouble. Whenever it appears to a believer that the Lord is not near, the truth is that He is always in him and around him. God ensures the safety, comfort and protection of His children, always. Whenever it becomes critical, He makes His presence known so that the believer does not cringe under the weight of fear. He sends comfort. Indeed, He manifests His comfort to us through His Spirit that tabernacles within us and has come to stay forever, if we do not eject Him. He can be ejected by refusing to obey Him or grieving Him. Those who do so soon find themselves comfortless.

When Jesus was with the disciples and the rulers of the Jews challenged them for eating while the disciples of others fasted, Jesus was available to speak in their defense and keep them standing. The same thing when they appeared to disobey the laws of the sabbath. But then, here was Jesus announcing his imminent departure and the disciples would have wondered what would happen to them after His departure. But the compassionate one had prayed that they be given an abiding Comforter in the Holy Spirit, forever. Yes, forever as the same is with the disciples of Christ even unto this day. Once, Christ truly departed, the Spirit of truth took men over and has been leading and comforting believers, ever since.

Is there any who is in distress or mourning because of the works of the wicked, the Lord is reassuring us of the comfort we have in the Holy Spirit who is sent never to leave us comfortless. All that is necessary is that we put our hearts to align with, and listen to Him.  No matter how devastating the situation may appear, once we submit it to the one who dwells in us, our comfort will show and our peace will be fully restored. There is a user of this devotional to whom God is saying today, “be of good cheer”. Why not submit it all to the Lord.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for giving me comfort always by your Spirit. I know that truly, many are the afflictions of the righteous, but because of your promise of the Comforter, please send comfort to me in the places where I had been afflicted in Jesus’ name. By reason of your Comforter abiding in, and with me, let there be restoration unto me, all the years that the locusts, the caterpillars, cankerworms and palmerworms have eaten in my life and destiny, in Jesus’ name. Please revive my spirit by the presence of the Comforter, in Jesus’ name. Let today be the beginning of renewed joy with an overflow, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
