The Agony Of Separation

Focus: Mark 15:34 - KJV

34. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

1 Peter 2:4-10

There is a clear position that Christ has a glory He shared with the Father from the very beginning even before coming into the world. He enjoyed that glory and relationship all through His walk on earth until the day He bore the sin of mankind upon Himself and got separated from the Father. Such an experience was truly agonizing. Nonetheless, He surrendered Himself to be so separated so that He may delve into darkness to draw therefrom the lost into His marvelous light. But the agony of His momentary separation from the Father was damning and clearly unbearable.

One man was, that also bore the glory of God until he had his hair shaved and got disconnected from the father. His agony is purely indescribable: he lost his eyes and became an ex-champion. Those who dared not challenge him hitherto, started making him a mockery and made a sport of him. The source of his shining had been separated from him. Samson was a carrier of the Spirit of God with great abilities. Once the Spirit was separated from him, he became a sorry case and a pitiable sight. He had never been defeated before since he was born until he was shaved. Let us then imagine what Christ had to go through that we may be saved.

The Lord is asking that we consider not just the agony that Christ went through when He got separated from the father, but what we are likely to go through if we allow ourselves to be separated from the father through our carelessness like the man Samson. When we get separated from the Father who is light, darkness takes over. There is nothing good in darkness, except groping, pains and agony. On this Good Friday, God is telling us to think again our choices not to make a wrong choice that can cause us a separation and result in agony. If there is someone who is experiencing the agony of separation from God, it is not too late to ask for forgiveness and get reconciled today, so that he may be drawn out of darkness into God’s marvelous light anew.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the great sacrifice you had to make that I may be reconciled to you, and be partaker of your glory. Please keep me glued to you never to be separated from you so I may not ever again experience the agony of being separate from you, in Jesus’ name. Every plan of the devil to get me derailed and destroyed, please thwart in Jesus’ name. Let your light perpetually shine over my life that I may never slide into darkness and agony in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
