9. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
1 John 2:18-24
Many doctrines have existed and shaped the thoughts of the entire world today. Among others, the doctrines can be categorized into three: the doctrine of the world, the doctrine of the fathers and the doctrine of Christ. All doctrines tend to direct man into the recognition and submission to a Supreme Being. The doctrine of the world is absolutely of the devil without an iota of credence to the Almighty God. On the other hand, although the doctrine of the fathers is aimed at introducing mankind to God, it falls short of the true person of God and therefore basically ungodly. And then there is the doctrine of Christ which is directly from God Himself introducing the Lord’s true person to mankind. Therefore, as many as receive the truth of Christ’s doctrine receives freedom from the shackles of hell, the world and bondage of the fathers.
The world teaches men to be anti-Christ. It is only about vices to the Kingdom. It is purely against peace and wellbeing. The teachings of the fathers are mixed – partly of the world and partly of God. For instance, the fathers teach that thou shall not kill but they approve killing with another breath; they agree that thou shall not commit fornication but deal hypocritically about it. Whereas the doctrine of Christ is about love. Whatever you want to do, begin to do or do must be premised on love and dovetail into love. It is by love that the world was created for love and to manifest love. It is through love that God is replicated in man. By love, man overcomes the devil and all of his wickedness for love is the fulfilment of all the laws and the laws are drafted to return man to God.
The Lord is reiterating His position that the only person He has ever recommended to us by Himself and with His own voice in the presence of human witnesses, is Jesus Christ. Hence, that recommendation and the instruction that came with it “hear ye Him” is a pointer to the fact that His doctrine is the one approved by the father against all others. A deviation to the right or the left is not just a rejection of the Son but also the father. Such rejection comes with grave consequences the first of which is submission to the lordship of the wicked one by adhering to the doctrine of the world and getting squashed thereby. Let us follow the doctrine of Christ from now on, for a better world and living.
