Scripture:
"Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering." – Exodus 25:2 (KJV)
In Exodus 25, God was preparing to dwell among His people in the Tabernacle. It is a monumental project requiring gold, silver, fine linen, and precious stones. Yet, before God lists the materials, He sets a vital condition for the collection: willingness of heart. God owns the cattle on a thousand hills and all the gold in the earth. He didn't need the Israelites' resources to build a dwelling place, but He wanted their participation. However, He made it clear that He would only accept what was given freely. He wasn't looking for a "tax" or a gift given out of guilt or social pressure. He was looking for a reflection of the giver's heart.
This verse teaches us that the spirit behind our service and giving matters more to God than the amount we give. Whether it is our time, our talents, or our finances, God delights in the "cheerful giver". When we give willingly, we acknowledge that everything we have belongs to Him anyway, and we express our love and gratitude for His presence in our lives. God is more interested in the "why" than the "how much." A small gift given with love outweighs a large gift given with a grudge. God invites us to partner with Him in His work on earth. It is a privilege to contribute to His kingdom. Our willing hearts create a space where God’s presence can be manifest in our communities and lives today.
Think about your "offering" to God this week. Are you serving in your church or helping a neighbor because you have to, or because you want to? Today, find one way to give—whether it’s a word of encouragement, a financial gift, or a helping hand—and do it completely voluntarily, with no strings attached and a smile on your face. What is one thing you can offer to God today with a truly willing heart?
Prayer
Lord, I thank You for every blessing and resource You have placed in my hands. I recognize that I am a steward of Your goodness. Search my heart today, Father. Remove any stinginess, hesitation, or sense of obligation from my spirit. Help me to give of myself—my time, my love, and my resources—with a joyful and willing heart. May my life be a contribution that helps build Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Please share. God bless you.
