The Knowledge of God

Focus: 1 Corinthians 15:34 - KJV

34. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

Isaiah 55:6-11

A part of the Bible did say God asserted that many worship Him with their lips but their hearts are far from Him. It is because these ones lack the knowledge of God. Others do claim to know God but represent Him in a bad light that is strange to Him, just like Job’s friends. The reason they are so unrecognizing of God is because their hearts are clogged with some strange picture of an element whom they look to as God who is far from being God. Hence, the Lord enjoins the wicked to forsake his way, and the unrighteous his thoughts. At the level of thoughts, if it is forsaken, it will not graduate to wickedness; it is yet unrighteousness. When however, the unrighteous thoughts are allowed to find space, they graduate into wicked actions which is sin. God is found in neither of these. So, the ways of the wicked are far from God’s and the thoughts of the unrighteous far from His.

Nonetheless, the ways of the Lord are in His words which will never return unto Him void; it shall accomplish that for which it is sent. Meaning, to know God, we need to awake to righteousness and avoid sin. This we can only do when we know what constitutes unrighteousness and sin. The way to such understanding is in the word of God which spotlights the person of God, what He wants and what He detests. The Lord taught this unto Joshua that he may have good success; David realized this early and did not allow the word of God out of his heart and mind so that he could avoid sin, and soon enough, God referred to him as a man after His own heart. The Lord Jesus recommended to us that we abide in Him and let His word abide in us that we may succeed, knowing that in the word is our knowledge of God assured and through it we have life and life more abundantly.

Beloved, it is a shame for us to claim to serve God and not know the one whom we claim to serve. Paul met some who were not ashamed to make known their folly about the person of God when they raised a sign post to the unknown God. When we refuse to learn about God, we tend to misrepresent Him before men. For all intents and purposes, however, God is who He is and no one can read into His being who He is not. Let us be fair to ourselves by studying to show ourselves approved, great workmen rightly dividing the word of truth, so that we will stop misrepresenting God and we can correct those who hold Him in wrong perspective. For, how are we able to correct others when we do not know anything ourselves? It is they that do know their God that do exploits in strength.

SOLUTION: Be resolute about knowing God the more through His word. It is the way away from unrighteousness and sin.

Please pray: Father, I pray today like Moses and Paul, I want to know you the more: please grant me the grace to see you as you truly are in Jesus’ name. From now on, please help me to represent you correctly before men and in all instances, in Jesus’ name.
