The Stranger’s Guide

Focus: Psalms 119:19 - KJV

19. I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.

Psalms 119:17-24

Everyone that God made upon the earth knows not the earth like the Lord does. Hence, the Lord has the key to excellence on earth. There is nothing that is that takes not its being from the Lord. Therefore, no matter what we are or think we are, as far as the earth is concerned, strangers and pilgrims we are on earth. But God is not callous to leave us in limbo on earth. He has delivered to us His word to guide us through our journeys on earth so that we may find our sojourn worthy and lofty. However, each time we turn against the counsel of the guide, we are left at the mercy of darkness and begin to grope therein. The solution remains the word of God which is our eternal guide on this earth.

Joshua was not born when his forebear, Jacob took his family to Egypt. But here he was at the departure of Moses, saddled with the responsibility of taking Israel to the promised land which was strange to them all. That he may succeed in his assignment and journey, the Lord instructed him to hinge his guidance on the book of the law which, simply described, is the word of God as known at the time. By reason of that word which he was to meditate on day and night, Joshua got his direction largely correct and settled Israel in the land of their promise.

The Lord is asking us to return to our first love by first putting our acts together and relying on His word rather than our perceived intellectual prowess. No matter how intellectually sound we may believe we are, the Lord is wiser than us all and what we do not know, He knows even to its depths. Let us therefore stop underrating our God and begin to operate in the word for proper guidance as strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Unless we hearken, we cannot please the Lord.
