Think Soberly
Focus: Romans 12:3 - KJV
3. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Romans 12:3-8
There is the tendency in Church to over hype some positions and the occupiers thereof. In some cases, the financial supporters of ministries are given greater relevance than the ordinary members. For instance, there are places where financial contributors or “partners”, as they are often called, are given special tags or invites etc. to ministerial functions so that they are accorded greater pride of place than even the workers in the vineyard and would-be converts for whom the program ordinarily should be. In the end, the financial members feel more important than even ministers and their carriage suggests the same. Meanwhile, everyone in the body is of equal importance so that no one ought to think more highly than he ought. For as the thumb is, so are the eyes in the body. If the eyes be darkened, the thumb will not function effectively neither will the entire body. If the thumb be affected by whitlow, the entire body is put in pain for the sake. It is the same with the body of Christ. When we make some people feel more important than others, we unwittingly sow discord in the body. When it is the functionaries that feel too important one to the other, they are not able to benefit one from another and in the end, a house that is divided against itself shall not stand.
What is your relevance in the body of Christ? Are you an usher, chorister, teacher, minister or financial contributor? Your role is meant to be complimentary of the other workers in the vineyard and never more important. If as a teacher, the usher fails to organize the class you are to teach, you may not find your teaching interesting. Neither are you, as a chorister able to function well except the instrumentalists be on the top of their game. Your puffing up on your supposed performance is an invitation to discord and profits not the body.
SOLUTION: Please be humble in the service of the Lord no matter where you function knowing that as the Holy Spirit has given you a measure of faith to operate therein, He gave others also some measure of faith to operate in their ministries to compliment the body to which you all belong.
Father, help me to be a builder in your body and not a caterpillar in the name of Jesus. Give me the humble spirit to make me work in humility with others so that we may together bring credit to your body in Jesus’ name. In all, let our combined functions bring your glory upon the earth every time we minister in Jesus’ name.
