Treasure Location

Focus: Matthew 6:19-21 - KJV

19. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

1 Timothy 6:6-9, 17-19

This saying is wise that where one’s treasure is, there will his heart be. It will amuse us to learn that we are God’s treasure and that is why He is so particular about our salvation and restoration unto Himself. The heart of God is with man. On the converse side, even though God loves us so much and seeks a reconciliation and total recovery of mankind, despite all He has done and is still doing, man rather has his heart in things that do not last or glorify, ignoring God and the hope of being joined with Him again. The heart of man is hinged on making money, acquiring properties and just oppressing every other individual with the idea of wealth. In the meantime, such treasures do not last. Many do not even realize that all that hey waste effort on end up in the hands of their detractors eventually, thereby being eaten up by moth and rust.

Let us for a minute consider the life and times of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt who lived at the time of Joseph. He made effort to put the information he received from God to good use by ensuring the sustenance of mankind at the time. His acts are recorded indelibly for all to read. Yet, another Pharaoh came who thought about himself and his people alone making slaves of the people through whom sustenance was brought to Egypt. He did it to build Egypt. But that which he built was irrelevant in his affairs when he was drowned in the sea. That was moth and rust corrupting it. In heaven, where the acts of the initial Pharaoh is recorded as treasure, nothing destroys treasures there. He is bound to enjoy it hereafter.

We also can set our hearts in heaven where God is by first determining to reign with Him and then, building up for ourselves lasting resources there for us to meet and enjoy when we cross to the other side. The beauty of the other side is that no one dies there and there is order there. But to get there, we must have our hearts tailored towards going there. The place on its own becomes our treasure if we are programmed in our hearts to be with the Lord. Like the elder brother of the prodigal son, everything the father has will be ours forever if we think more about being and reigning with Him, rather than having our minds stuck with the earth and its vagaries as well as vanities.

SOLUTION: Love God and obey His commands. Be passionate about His appearing. Do more acts that point vertically to heaven as against horizontal actions that do not leave the realm of the earth. Be deliberate in doing the will of God always.

Pray in this manner, please: My father and my God I look up to you always and I prefer to be yours than to be that of the prince of this world. Let nothing shake me off your side dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. As I go about my daily affairs, please keep my mind on you and not on things that do not last, in Jesus’ name. Help me to love you more so that my heart will remain with you forever in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
