Turn Your Eyes From Vanity

Focus: Psalms 119:37 - KJV

37. Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

2 Samuel 11:1-4

One of the easiest ways by which the enemy entraps men is through what he lures them to look at. Once the eyes register some lustful view, it takes it to the mind and there it is processed either negatively or otherwise. Since as he thinks in his heart so he is, if the thought is negative, uncleanness proceeds from there. Before we know it, the thoughts graduate into action and if the action is sinful, consequences follow. It is safer to turn away our eyes at the point of the first glance to prevent the thought process from being engendered. If we allow the whole process to be completed, it is always devastating in the end.

The devastation that mankind has been through in the hands of the enemy started with a stern look on the fruit of the tree which God forbade man from eating. Seeing graduated to thinking it may not be hurtful after all, and then the trial came. When it is first taken, a sinful venture seems sweet, and so was the fruit in the mouth of Eve. The greatest of the kings recorded in the Bible was said to be David. But an unwholesome look at the nakedness of another man’s woman from afar, led to a wrongful thought process which eventually translated to sinful acts, the one bringing about the other and yet another.

The Lord wants us as believers to be mindful of the use of our eyes. When we observe that the thing coming to our glare is vain and of no Kingdom value, we ought to train our eyes well enough to take them away from any long view of the same so that the view does not graduate into vain thoughts which may lead to vain actions the end of which is death. David, whom God so loved found himself in a terrible debacle because of not covenanting with his eyes at the time, not to dwell on vanity. If he did not quickly seek the mercy of the Lord, the enemy would have succeeded in destroying him. Even though the enemy did not succeed fully, yet he devastated David a bit for the evil his eyes brought him to.

SOLUTION: It is important we stay away from error and remain clean than to fall and then be seeking mercy. Let us therefore covenant with our eyes from today not to dwell on vanity so that our entire being will not burn in hell.

Please pray:

·      Give thanks to God for loving you enough to bring this warning up today

·      Ask God to please forgive you for all the hills the eyes had brought you to by putting you out of control with dare repercussions

·      Pray God to equip you with strength by His Spirit to overcome temptations that come through the lust of the eyes

·      Ask God to restore to you all that the enemy had stolen from you through the lust of the eyes

·      Ask for your daily bread today

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
