25. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Galatians 5:16-25
Welcome to the last quarter of the year. From all of us at TLHJ, we say Happy New Month/Quarter to you and pray that beginning from today, and through the rest of the year, you will experience God better than ever before, in Jesus’ name. Everyone that is born of God is sealed by His Spirit. It is by the Spirit and His bearings in and through the convert, that we know where the convert belongs. The good book affirms that those who are so sealed, become new creation; for them, old things (that is every bearing that relates to the flesh, as against the Spirit, in which they operated hitherto) are passed away and all things (that is to say the aspirations and assertions of the convert) have become new. Such newness is about the workings of the Spirit in the same. However, unless the convert determines to walk in the Spirit, he is susceptible to returning to his vomit in the flesh. This is more so because, the old man which he sheds at the time of conversion is never relenting and seeks to get hold of him again. Hence, at every point of the way in his journey of life, even though the sealing Spirit directs him in the way of righteousness, the flesh strives to bring him to confusion by presenting the “juice” in its works as what should be preferred.
Demas was a disciple and follower of Apostle Paul. He was by the fact, a convert who was sealed by the same Spirit with which others like Timothy, Mark and the rest, were sealed. But at a point in the journey, Paul testified that Demas had forsaken him. The reason he gave for Demas’ action is interesting to note: he had loved this present world more than the Kingdom. It is unfortunate that such happened to Demas. But the truth is: Demas had a war ravaging in his being and did not know which voice to listen to and stick with. While the Spirit was guiding him to sonship by showing him the narrow way, the flesh was reminding him of the pleasure he left in the world and how so much he was missing it. If he had given recognition to the Spirit and walked with Him, he would not have been able to yield to, or fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Like it happened in the mind of Demas, it is happening in every of our minds as believers. The overcomer is the one who makes the right choice which is to walk in the Spirit. When we do walk in the Spirit, we do not fulfil the works of the flesh. It is that we constantly say no to the luring of the flesh. There is no one that is not prone to seeking pleasure. But the pleasure borne out of fleshly lust is like gulping down poison. It is absolutely suicidal to the believer because it is better not to have known Christ than to know Him and then forsake Him by jettisoning His Spirit, to return to the ways of the flesh. We are therefore, being guided of God today, to abide by the Spirit and His directions and we will find that the only fruit we will bear will be encapsulated in love. Please walk in the Spirit and refuse to depart from His counsel.
SOLUTION: The way to life is by walking in the Spirit. The other way is the way of destruction. Let us avoid destruction by hearkening only to the Spirit of God with whom we are sealed to bring us to the stature of sonship in God.
Please pray:
Thank you, Lord, for sealing me with your Spirit that I may become your son, like Jesus Christ. From today, help me to be obedient only to your Spirit and forsake completely the works of the flesh. Whatever will make me to forsake you, let it never come my way. Keep me in the walk with the Spirit and make me strong in it to the very end. Please let the benefits of being a part of your Kingdom begin to show more in my life than ever before. Do let my day by purposeful and well. All these I pray in Jesus’ mighty name.
If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name
