Why Give Evil Counsel?

Focus: 2 Samuel 13:5 - KJV

5. And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

2 Samuel 13:1-14

It is one thing for someone to become obsessed with an evil thought, it is another thing for some other person to urge the same on to the consummation of the evil thoughts by giving counsel on the strategy to consummate it. There are many people today who, out of evil communication and indeed association, have thrown themselves into the devil’s net and thereby become prisoners. The devastation lust can bring to the lustful is in itself bad; to encourage the lustful on to the consummation of his lust is criminal and akin to calculated murder. Amnon lusted after his half-sister. That, to all ears that hear it, is evil as it is simply incest. The mind to sleep with her was also bad as it is a defilement which puts the poor girl out of marriage contention, except of course to the unworthy. Jonadab knew that the obsession of Amnon was bad but urged him on, giving him counsel on how to achieve his intentions. The rest is history as it brought calamity into the family of David with brother killing brother. Eve did the same with her husband, counseling him to eat what God forbade. The devastating effect of that has been gruesome.

Many of those who do wicked things on earth: stealing, killing, adultery, fornication and so on, do so with the collaboration and spurring on of some of their acquaintances. God is not happy about such action as it amounts to luring a friend to sin. Even though Jesus loved Peter, when the counsel of Peter sounded with the words of Satan, Jesus rebuked him. This should be the position of a believer who is heavenly focused. The wrath of God will come on sinners; not only them that do it but also on those who, knowing that the thing is evil, urge them on to do it. Please flee from everything that looks like evil either for you or another to do.

SOLUTION: Dear believer, if sinners entice you, consent thou not. If you give counsel to anyone to sin, you shall not be guiltless. You are bound to partake in the recompense of the evil done. Flee.

Please pray:

·     Give thanks to God that you are still standing and have not been completely destroyed by listening to the advice of friends to sin, even if the thought was first mooted by you

·     Ask God to forgive you in any way you have participated in the sin of others whether spurring them on or standing by, watching it consummated, doing nothing

·     Tell God to guide you so that you will not err like Peter, who believed he was genuinely giving his leader confidence without knowing that he was moving against God

·     Pray that the Lord will fortify you like He did Christ that He was able to decipher the voice of the evil one from the voice of His dear friend

·     Ask God to supply your needs for today so that you may not be deceived through the instrumentality of bread like the enemy tried to deceive the Christ Himself.
