Work earnestly

Key verse: 1 Thessalonians 4:11

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

2 Thessalonians 3:6-15

When God made man, the first thing God gave man was responsibility through work. He made him to tend the garden. Man, as a creature of God is to work in one way or the other to make the earth which is the abode of man, a better place. Many that had gone before, through their work, invented automobiles, electricity, computers, agronomy and so on, and thereby improved the earth to the level that it is for all therein to now enjoy. If, however, man continues on earth without work, how be it that the earth be replenished for the benefit of the creatures? Or, if only some would work and others laze about without working, how can mankind optimize the benefit of being on earth together in the improvement of the space? Wouldn’t those engaged in the works as against others who do not, feel cheated and therefore disgruntled about the inequity in such practice?

As it is the mind of God that man should work, so also is the Gospel enjoining us all to work. For work to be meaningful though, there is need for preparation which is why it is important to study to be quiet. In so doing, one can put together thought-out plans for his own business. The reason there is so much corruption and crime in society is that people are not willing to work anymore with their hands. They will rather earn for doing nothing and that without apology. Those who do so walk disorderly and not in the tenets of God. The unfortunate thing about this is that the culprits go about parading their loots as God’s miracle or blessing. On the contrary, they are sucking the blood of the genuine workers through who’s sweat the funds they squander were gathered. To such we are enjoined to stay away from.

Nonetheless, if we find any, who, by accident of faith is not able to work and is in need, we are to keep doing good for the same so that they may come out of their situation into a better place in life. We are not to hate the bloodsuckers either. We are called into a ministry of reconciliation to help them locate the truth and be restored by it. Beloved, do good to all men but don’t join the multitude to do evil by going to share in loots that people do not work for. Receiving a contract to share the contract sum without doing the required job is such and the Lord is not happy with it.

Pray: Lord, help me to work to fulfill your command and not fail you in Jesus name.
